The large social networking sites are great for staying in contact with old friends, they are even good at hooking-up and meeting new people. I've done 2 of these and Allan (single) is somewhat interested in the third.

Our online communities should actually resemble a real community because we operate exclusively within the community itself.

A requirement to joining is that you must live and work here (here is defined as a local phone call or cup of coffee away).

You see, when a member of one of our communities reads another members profile and believes that they can help that person or can possible get help from that person... they simply use the community tools to make the initial contact - knowing that if this connection indeed makes mutual sense they can actually connect in the real world.

In the very same community they actually live and work.

Yes! they can meet for a morning cup of coffee at one of the areas great local independent coffee shops - or of course that end of day micro-brew.

The real point here is that they can start and build a real relationship.
